About AppDirect

Become a digital, global citizen and enable the new generation of digital entrepreneurs around the world. AppDirect offers a subscription commerce platform to sell any product, through any channel, on any device - as a service. We power millions of subscriptions worldwide for organizations. We do this by our values-driven culture - one that enables you to Be Seen, Be Yourself, and Do Your Best Work.

About the vCom Operations Environment

vCom Solutions (an AppDirect company) enables organizations to buy and manage network and mobility services through a single, unified platform. vCom runs their business on a multi‑region Azure environment. The core workloads are classic Windows/IIS and SQL Server applications. The stack is a mix of legacy ASP.NET Framework apps and newer Angular & .NET Core services, with Azure Logic Apps handling many of the key integrations and automations. Over time, the goal is to bring this estate closer to AppDirect’s standardized Kubernetes-based Cloud/DevOps Platform practices while continuing to reliably support vCom’s day‑to‑day operations.

About You

We are looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer (P3) to take technical ownership of the vCom Azure estate and surrounding services, with a strong DevOps mindset and deep familiarity with Microsoft‑centric stacks (Azure, IIS, SQL Server, Fortinet, Logic Apps). You are comfortable working in complex, VM‑heavy environments while helping to evolve them towards more automated and modern cloud‑native practices. Experience with .NET Framework to .NET Core migrations, and workflow/orchestration tools like Azure Logic Apps, will be a strong asset.

As a member of a global distributed team, you communicate clearly in English, collaborate well with developers, operations, and security, and can translate business needs into pragmatic, secure, and scalable cloud solutions.

What you’ll do and how you’ll have an impact

Azure Infrastructure Ownership & Operations

  • Operate and enhance the multi‑region Azure environment, including VNets, subnets, NSGs, gateways, storage, and compute.
  • Administer and optimize Windows Server and IIS workloads.
  • Manage firewalls and VPN gateways.
  • Maintain and improve DR and backup posture using Azure Site Recovery, snapshots, replication policies, and SQL Server backups.

Application & Platform Support

  • Support .NET applications (primarily ASP.NET Framework 4.8 on IIS, with growing .NET Core workloads).
  • Collaborate with development teams to stabilize and improve key workloads (iPATH, vManager, mobile tools, billing workflows, integrations) and their underlying infrastructure.
  • Operate and evolve Azure Logic Apps used for integrations (e.g., HubSpot, Comcast, vendor queues, automation flows), including monitoring, troubleshooting, and incremental improvements.

Release, Deployment & Environment Management

  • Own and improve the current release and deployment processes, including manual MSBuild‑based application deployments to IIS and structured SQL script deployments.
  • Implement incremental automation for build and deployment (e.g., Azure DevOps pipelines, batch tooling for DB deployments), reducing human error and time‑to‑deploy.
  • Help maintain clean and consistent environment configurations (Prod, Dev, QA, UAT, DR), including rationalization of Azure Resource Groups and decommissioning of unused resources.
  • Coordinate environment refreshes (e.g., periodic data copies from Prod to Dev/QA) and ensure proper data masking and security controls are in place.

Monitoring, Reliability & Incident Management

  • Use Datadog, Azure Monitor, logs, and SQL diagnostics to proactively identify issues, performance bottlenecks, and reliability risks across the stack.
  • Participate in incident response for production issues, including troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and implementing hardening and automation to prevent recurrence.
  • Establish and refine operational runbooks and standard operating procedures for the vCom environment, including maintenance windows and on‑call practices.

Security, Compliance & Best Practices

  • Work with security and IT to maintain a robust security posture across firewalls, NSGs, identity, SAML integration, and data access patterns.
  • Contribute to aligning vCom operations with AppDirect’s broader security and compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, PCI, SOC2 compatibility where applicable).
  • Support efforts to standardize configurations, reduce configuration drift, and ensure consistent patching and hardening of servers and services.

Continuous Improvement & Long‑Term Evolution

  • Apply a continuous improvement mindset to reduce toil, eliminate manual steps, and increase observability and reliability in day‑to‑day operations.
  • Partner with AppDirect’s Cloud & DevOps Platform teams to gradually introduce Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and more standardized platform capabilities where they bring clear value.
  • Contribute insights and hands‑on support to future modernization efforts, including .NET Framework to .NET Core migrations, refactoring of workloads, and deeper integration with the shared Cloud Platform.

What we’re looking for

  • Bachelor degree or master degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a Software, DevOps or Cloud Engineer.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure, including Windows Server / IIS environments and hosting .NET applications.
  • Familiarity with firewall technologies (ideally Fortinet) and load balancing (e.g., Azure Application Gateway).
  • Strong SQL Server experience (administration, performance tuning, backup/restore, script execution, deployment patterns).
  • Exposure to or experience with Azure Logic Apps or equivalent workflow tools for integration and automation.
  • Comfortable with Source Code Management using Git (GitHub or similar), branching strategies, and release workflows.
  • Strong troubleshooting and systematic debugging skills across distributed systems, including use of monitoring tools such as Datadog and database queries.

Assets:

  • Experience leading or executing .NET Framework to .NET Core migrations for existing applications.
  • Hands‑on experience designing or operating Logic Apps or similar integration workflows at scale.
  • Experience with multi‑cloud environments and/or advanced Azure networking and security patterns.
  • Familiarity with modern CI/CD practices and tooling (e.g., pipelines, artifact repositories, automated testing) and how to introduce them into legacy/manual environments.
