We are seeking a Specialist, Margin Supervision to perform supervisory activities for our margin lending business and effectively manage regulatory, financial, and reputational risk to the business.
Responsibilities:
Support the margin team as a developing subject matter expert on margin lending, derivative instruments, and complex products within margin accounts; assist with agent escalations and technical margin inquiries while building expertise through mentorship from senior team members.
Monitor market, credit, and concentration risk at dealer and client levels real-time; identify potential high-risk areas and contribute to the development of risk mitigation strategies.
Continuously monitor market conditions, volatility, and portfolio exposures to identify emerging risks; exercise sound judgment to make time-sensitive decisions that rapidly redirect supervision efforts toward affected accounts and implement enhanced oversight protocols in response to changing market conditions while effectively mitigating risk.
Support the development and testing of risk models that measure potential losses under various market conditions; apply analytical skills to validate model outputs and identify trends.
Develop working knowledge of CIRO Business Conduct and Financial Operations regulations; assist in analyzing rule requirements and communicating compliance obligations to internal stakeholders with guidance from senior team members.
Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Compliance, Finance, Risk, and Operations teams to support risk assessments and help identify operational, compliance, and capital requirements for new and existing products.
Assist in implementing and maintaining processes, policies, and procedures that support CIRO regulatory compliance and address capital adequacy requirements; contribute ideas for process improvements and efficiency gains.
Conduct detailed reviews of transfer activities to evaluate risk exposure, validate control effectiveness, and ensure adherence to established policies while maintaining optimal balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency.
Utilize professional judgement to assess security risk profiles and set dynamic margin rates responsive to volatility and liquidity conditions, maintaining adherence to CIRO regulatory requirements
Support balanced risk assessment by evaluating client and dealer impacts; contribute to the development of practical solutions that balance risk mitigation with product functionality and client experience.
Prepare presentation materials and reports on margin lending activities for internal departments and management; develop clear summaries of complex risk data tailored to varying levels of audience expertise.
Demonstrate initiative by identifying process gaps and contributing to team projects; take ownership of assigned tasks and see them through to completion with appropriate oversight and guidance.
Requirements:
1-3 years of experience in margin operations, risk management, compliance, or a related function at a CIRO-regulated investment dealer or financial services firm
Completion of or active enrolment in Investment Dealer Supervisor Course (IDSC), Derivatives Fundamentals and Options Licensing Course (DFOL), or other relevant CSI courses preferred; CFA, CPA, or FRM pursuit considered an asset.
Working knowledge of margin lending and derivative instruments with developing understanding of strategy risks and payoff profiles; familiarity with CIRO IDPC margin requirements under Rules 3000, 4000, and 5000, with commitment to deepening regulatory expertise.
Strong analytical capabilities with excellent attention to detail and solid problem-solving skills; working proficiency in SQL for data extraction; advanced Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
Demonstrates sound judgment and composure when working in a fast-paced environment; able to manage multiple priorities and seek guidance when needed.
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with ability to build effective relationships across teams; receptive to feedback and willing to contribute ideas and perspectives appropriately.
Clear communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences; adapts messaging based on audience expertise ranging from operational teams to management.
