About the team:
We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to join our People Operations team for a 18-month fixed-term contract. At Wealthsimple, People Ops isn’t just a back-office function; we are the architects of the employee experience.
About the role:
In this role, you’ll ensure our Canadian and US payroll operations run like clockwork. You are a Workday power-user who understands the nuances of full-cycle payroll. While you will not be managing benefits enrollment or plan design, you should have a solid grasp of how benefits impact employees’ pay.
What you’ll do:
Full-cycle Execution: Own the end-to-end semi-monthly payroll process for our Canadian and US entities
Year-End Support: Contribute to the successful completion of the full year-end reporting cycle (T4s, RL-1s, W-2s, T2200s)
Payroll & Benefits Support: Act as a knowledgeable resource for employees. You’ll answer questions regarding pay statements, tax withholdings, and benefit deductions
Compliance & Filing: Help manage statutory requirements, including provincial/state tax filings, EHT, Workers’ Comp, and relevant US state filings as needed
Audit & Reconciliation: Perform regular audits of payroll data to maintain our high standards for compliance and internal controls
Skills you’ll bring:
The Experience: 3-5+ years of full-cycle multi-province Canadian experience, including Quebec (experience with US payroll would be an asset)
Workday Expertise: Significant hands-on experience with Workday Payroll is a must
Team-Player Mindset: You enjoy working in a small, tight-knit team where knowledge-sharing and collaboration are the norms
Analytical Mindset: You love a good reconciliation and have a knack for spotting patterns or errors in large datasets
Benefit Fluency: You understand how standard benefit plans (RRSPs, 401ks, Health/Dental) work from a payroll perspective and can explain taxable benefits to employees with ease
People-First Communication: You can translate complex tax or payroll concepts into simple terms
